August Poppy Birth Flower Art Print

Not for sale yet. This design is a preview, so there's nothing to buy today.

An August birth flower art print: one red poppy with its bud and seed head, printed on the face of a cream seed packet from Bureau Seed Co., a seed house that never existed.

A red poppy opens between a nodding bud and a round seed head, over a clump of lobed leaves. POPPY runs across a near-black band at the top, a 5¢ seal sits beside the bloom, and AUGUST · BIRTH FLOWER runs along the bottom. It is No. 08 of twelve, one for each month, all laid out the same way so they read as a set.

Observe a little closer.

Read it from left to right: a hairy bud just splitting red, the open bloom with its dark centre, and the round seed head, over a clump of lobed leaves. We chose the poppy over the gladiolus because it made the prettier drawing of the two.

Print artwork: a cream paper seed packet at a slight tilt, with a thin near-black border set with diamonds and dots, and BUREAU SEED CO. · No. 08 on its flap. POPPY is printed in cream on a near-black band at the top, beside a round near-black seal reading 5¢. On the packet: one open red-orange poppy with a dark centre ringed in stamens, a hairy nodding bud just splitting red, and a round seed head, on curving stems over lobed, toothed leaves. In a small round frame at the lower left, a seedling with two leaves in a little soil. The bottom band reads AUGUST · BIRTH FLOWER.
